Rare Bottle Presented

31st July

Today we welcomed Kate Smeed and her daughter who presented us with a very rare bottle to add to our displays.

It is William Younger Majority Ale . The bottle arrived in a handmade wooden box with original straw packaging and was one of a set of 1866 production sample bottles.

Brewed to celebrate the coming of age of Harry George Younger-it was produced in 1866-the year of his birth and laid in storage as preparation.

After many years these bottles were given to Shareholders of Scottish & Newcastle.
This particular bottle was given to Mr O Griffin. In later years his wife decided it was time to pass it on and gave it to his friend Mr Smeed. It is the Smeed family who have kindly loaned it to us.

Thank You!
